Stumbleupon is overrated

Posted under Internet on August 9

These days people go on and on about stumble upon. I myself have written about stumble upon’s benefits and easy to get traffic previously but have begun to doubt its worth. Traffic from stumble upon is often people looking for design inspiration or just quickly skimming over different websites. People don’t seem to read the content and are therefore useless. This blog has had extremely high traffic on the first days of its opening from stumbleupon but the money brought it from adsense was very little. This shows to me that the quality of stumbleupon traffic is poor. It is traffic similar to auto generated traffic in that they will not click ads or contribute to your website.

I don’t know if this is entirely true but for me and my website stumbleupon has worked great to boost traffic figures but not revenue. People have often been saying social bookmarking and buzz marketing is more important that search engines like google. I disregard this and say search engine traffic is better quality. This is just my opinion. If stumbleupon has brought in good revenue for your website please post a comment.

  1. I found this site by Stumble-ing.
By the look of the reactions, maybe you’re right.

  2. Stumbling is great for my site. I would rather have the same traffic but from google though.

  3. Hi,

I think you are right. Stumble can maybe bring a much traffic, but it is just like when you are stumbling - you just hit the “Stumble!” button over and over again while you don’t find something really interesting. Traffic is counting, but money does not.

    IMHO.

  4. I think its also the case that Stumblers are aware what adsense is, and will actively not want to click them. The kind of people that use Stumbleupon are like me and you.

  5. Thanks you gave me an idea for an article.

  6. I agree. I had about 15,000 hits from Stumble the first day and now I get next to none. I made very little with adsense as well.

  7. It only works for you if your audience is huge. Then you have a lot of followers. I did have an audience of over 2k at one stage. They followed where I went. But nowadays I am too busy to stumble. Just the odd one here and there.

  8. While it’s true that StumbleUpon won’t make a huge difference, it at least makes enough of a difference that it’s better than nothing. Even if most stumblers won’t read through the content, at least a few (such as myself) will.

  9. Stumbleupon stopped taking feeds from my site. Sent them an e-mail and they stated they were getting too many feeds from my site. If I wanted traffic from them, I can pay! I guess they are now want to be paid to send you traffic!

  10. I get lots of traffic and revenue from stumbleupon visits, though I don’t use adsense, I use Kontera. Less stumblers know about Konterea and are more likely to click it.
