Stop wordpress changing your code
If you try to add google ads into your posts you will find if you edit the article and save it will mess up the code. Wordpress also changes <div> in <p>. This can be pretty annoying to say the least. Luckily I have found an easy way to stop it
To stop wordpress changing your code simple turn off the visual editor. If you go to users on your wordpress admin you will find a checkbox you can uncheck. If you sometimes have to use the visual editor you can try adding another user which you can log in as to add google ads or other coding.
I have been doing this to create some custom pages for the new release of freecss.info and it works great.
Adapt your website to your visitors
This is something which I have recently come to realize the importance of. You should adapt your content of your website to target your visitors. If you have a large amount of traffic from google then this is easy to do. You should write content to satisfy what your visitors are looking for. This is more likely to satisfy them, causing them to come back. If they read content they are more likely to click ads instead of clicking on the back button straight away.
Other ways in which this is useful is to use affiliate marketing. You can then place ads on your website targeting what your traffic is looking for. For example:
Webmaster-files.com is my website and has had a template section for a while now. It is there so people can buy templates and I get a percentage of the sale. At first my website was targeting the keyword free webmaster resources. Sadly that keyword isn’t very good and instead my traffic is mostly coming from the google search “clan templates”. It is therefore more profitable to add a clan templates section to my website instead of just website templates.
Now since the product is targeted to the market (the visitors) I should hopefully see increased sales. Sometimes your traffic can come from sources which your weren’t originally expecting. Its best to adapt your website to what is working. You can therefore make the most of the traffic your website gets.
Do-Follow plugin benefits your blog
A lot of blogs these days install the plugin which removed the rel=”nofollow” attribute from comment links. This is good as it shares link love with people who comment on your blog. People like to advertise the fact they have do-follow installed as if it is a favor for visitors.
The plugin is beneficial for visitors but it is also beneficial for the blog. If you install the plugin you will have a huge increase in comments if you advertise it on forums and to people. This should lead to more return visitors and more subscribers.
The plugin also gets you come inbound links. It is a kind of link bait in that if you install the plugin you are likely to be featured on a number of lists of website with the plugin installed. If your blog has any page rank (pr) you are even more likely to be linked to.
So go ahead, install the plugin!
Make money selling links
A great way to make money from your website is to sell links. Many people sell links on forums or via an advertise page. This is great in that you get all the profits. Sadly its hard to get in contact with a large market of people interested in buying.
I have signed up for a website Text Link Ads. The site allows you to sell ad space on your website or blog. You sign up and submit your website. You are then entered into their marketplace for people to buy links on your website. You have around 8 links on your website which people buy slots for a month at a charge of $15+.
The links come in two formats. In post links and sidebar/ navigation type links. The sidebar/navigation links are conventional links like I have on the right column and display throughout the website. The in-post links are links placed inside content on posts on your blog. So they would be randomly scattered throughout content depending on what keywords people want to target.
I signed up to the program a month ago. This blog hadn’t made any money yet but my other two websites have sold links already. Its a great way to make money because you can have them alongside other ads. Its also great for people to buy as you get the benefits on traffic and PR.
So get some extra income and sign up for Text Link Ads.
Free CSS finally on its way
If you visit the blog regularly you will know I have been coming up with designs tirelessly for the new look freecss.info. The design I am going to go with is my most recent. A purple design :D Some of the details on the image will be refined when I code. I may cut out the indents on the right when I code aswell.
You can see the design: free css templates. That is the front page. The rest will be designed before I start coding.
Bidvertiser’s advatanges don’t pay dividends
Well you may have known that I have been experimenting with bidvertiser on freecss.info. On paper bidvertiser looks great:
- Choose the ads to display
- Some keywords around $3+ a click
- Can customize the size of ads
- Can change text on ads
- Payment through paypal
These are things adsense doesn’t have or bidvertiser is better for. Sadly my time with bidvertiser has generated pretty much no revenue. I had a few clicks each worth around a few cent. Quite strange considering I had the few cent ads disapproved. Anyways the reason for this is bidvertiser has less advertisers than adsense therefore the ads or less relevant to your website. As it turned out there were no templates or css ads displayed for my website. Instead I was getting internet maketing ads. I therefore conclude bidvertiser is only good if you have a website which coverts a lot of topics. Any niche website is likely to get irrelevant ads and therefore terrible CTR.
If you have had success with bidvertiser I would love to hear from you. Even if it proved to be a massive flop for me.
Are you suffering from obsessive webmaster syndrome?
I am writing this article due to the bad habits which us webmasters have. We often get obsessed with certain things and repeatedly check to see changes. I myself suffer from the webmaster syndrome and im sure you probably do to.
- Traffic obsession syndrome.
Symptoms include: Checking awstats more than once a day, checking everyday and checking alexa rankings daily to see if you have changed. This can often lead to a feeling of disappointment - Money Infactuation
Symptoms include: Opening up adsense when you open up the browser first, checking earning when you wake up in the morning. Predicting your earning when you are in bed about to sleep. - PageRank Crazy
Symptoms include: Constantly checking your predicted page rank and live page rank and posting a “whens the next update going to be” threads in forums. Can often lead to anxiety and paranoia.
These are the main three illnesses amongst webmasters. If you suffer from all three you could become a geek, resulting in poor eyesight, sensitivity to light, paranoia, anxiety, sleep deprivation and depression.
The only way to beat the addiction is to attend rehab. You will have to leave you computer for numerous weeks to get the internet out of your system. It has also been rumored google is to launch a special rehab clinic for the worst sufferers.
My latest website to be launched
Well to be honest its not really a website, its a proxy. I want to launch a proxy just to see why the hell the internet is littered with them. I have domain and design coded into phproxy but am search for free proxy hosting. It seems that it is non existent or just very hard to find. It seems I may need to purchase some hosting. I may even consider buying a server so I can host all my websites. Not sure how best to go about that though. If you know anything about that or a free proxy host then please leave a comment.
The proxy will be hiddenbypass.com. Just a simple proxy to experiment to see how successful they are. I also have a little trick which I want to test out
My web experiments
Well I have been experimenting with ad format on this site for starters. So far I haven’t found one which converts well although the ads seem to be high paying. My CTR is very low but CPM is reasonable. I also experimented with google adsense ad filter to try to increase my CPC on freecss.info. Sadly I didn’t see much of a change so decided to give bidvertiser a go.
Bidvertiser seems good when you go through the details. You can have the ads italic/regular/underline/bold text. That way you can make the text similar to the text on your website. This is something you can’t do with google adsense. You can also choose which ads to accept and display. You can even set up custom ad sizes which is pretty good. Sadly for me the ads that are available are irrelevant to my site. There are very few ads remotely related to the sites content. I will keep with it and try blocking all ads apart from very high paying ones to see how it work. At the moment I am definitely not impressed with its success ![]()
I will also try article submission for an article on the website. I will try and submit to loads of article directories to see if article submission really makes a difference these days and if its worth the effort.
How to build business contacts
The old saying - “its not just what you know but also who you know” - appears to be becoming more relevant to today’s society. Some studies show that currently in the UK people with great intra personal skills are more likely to be successful and have high earnings. If you go to a university of great prestige you not only gain good teaching but some great contacts for the future (Oxford university for example).
This is also true for the internet. If you participate on forums, run a blog or have developed a website you are more likely to be successful if you are well known. You will gain more exposure for the work which you do and you site is more likely to be visited by friends. Building a rapport with fellow forum members can also make you popular amongst the community. This can cause you to gain more work and extra exposure and respect for your sales in the forum. You can also branch out to other offline work for business if you can gain a contact amongst the business world who can recommend you to their friends.
Gaining contacts is a great thing but can be quite difficult. I find if you maintain a polite and helpful attitude to your work you do online you will gain respect and people will recommend you. Also try to keep a business like front to work for businesses. Be professional in your approach and manner in which you handle them. They are then likely to pass your name onto others.
