How to build business contacts
The old saying - “its not just what you know but also who you know” - appears to be becoming more relevant to today’s society. Some studies show that currently in the UK people with great intra personal skills are more likely to be successful and have high earnings. If you go to a university of great prestige you not only gain good teaching but some great contacts for the future (Oxford university for example).
This is also true for the internet. If you participate on forums, run a blog or have developed a website you are more likely to be successful if you are well known. You will gain more exposure for the work which you do and you site is more likely to be visited by friends. Building a rapport with fellow forum members can also make you popular amongst the community. This can cause you to gain more work and extra exposure and respect for your sales in the forum. You can also branch out to other offline work for business if you can gain a contact amongst the business world who can recommend you to their friends.
Gaining contacts is a great thing but can be quite difficult. I find if you maintain a polite and helpful attitude to your work you do online you will gain respect and people will recommend you. Also try to keep a business like front to work for businesses. Be professional in your approach and manner in which you handle them. They are then likely to pass your name onto others.

This is very true. I am well know in one of the biggest business forums on the net. My success is mainly because of this.

I am definitely well known and popular on the web, but I don’t have many, or any business contacts.
