Increase adsense earnings using ad filter

Posted under Webmaster Tips on August 18

This is something I only recently started to do but already it seems to be increasing my earnings slightly.

Using ad filter to stop MFA and low paying websites.

MFA websites are a huge problem for some adsense earnings. If your clicks are getting paid a cent or just a few cents the ad is likely to be for an MFA site. MFA means - made for adsense. Basically they are auto generated websites packed with ads. They pay for ads on adwords for a cent. To stop the MFA website you will need to add the URLs to the competitive ad filter on the google adsense admin area. To get the URLs its best to download theadsense preview tool. You can use the tool to look at the ads displayed on your webpage and see which urls each ad is for.

To use the adsense preview tool you simple go to you website and right click on the page. Then select adsense preview tool. You can click the ads in the frame which pops up and see whether the site is a MFA website or not. You can tell if its an MFA website if its packed with ads and no high quality content. If they are click the box next to the ad then click show selected ads. You can then copy the URLs from there into your ad filter on google adsense admin. The result of blocking these websites should be an increase in CPM.

Using the ad filter to make the ads more relevant

To do this simply follow the same instructions as above but instead of selecting the websites which are MFA also select the ads which are for irrelevant things no related to your website’s content. For example: my other website was for website templates. I was getting ads for excel templates and family tree templates. These aren’t related to my website so I filtered them. Doing this should make your ads more relevant to what your readers and looking for and are therefore more likely to click them.

  1. Sounds like a plan :)
    ill give it a try

  2. Thanks for the tip. I did not know that.

  3. I have used adsense for quite a while on various sites (I have over 1000 of them now :))

I tried the ad filter in several ways. After some considerable time, I found it did not make much of a difference at all.

However, that’s just me. Other people’s web sites may be different to mine and it may work for them.

  4. Well my CTR increased for like a day then returned to normal. My revenue hasn’t really increased but I will keep trying.

  5. Thanks for the walkthrough. This is something I need to do. I’d heard of MFA sites, but I wasn’t sure how to block them

  6. Interesting, too bad I was unaware of this when I used adsense…

  7. Thanks for the tip. We use Google Adsense and have seen a decrease in revenues for no reason. Our traffic has increased each year but the revenue has somewhat declined. I appreciate the info and wish everyone the best…..Mike Stevens/owner Ezdate123
