Ways to get traffic to your blog
In this article I will go through the different methods of advertising I have used for this website. The site us up to 900 uniques a day currently after two or so weeks of free marketing.
Forum Posting
This is usually the first thing I do to market a new website or blog. Ways to advertise in a forum are to add a link into your signature and to start a thread for a review or showcase. Some of the forums which I use are:Talkfreelance -Webforumz -ClanTemplates - DigitalPoint. This will bring in traffic straight away but will die down. Also gives you a lot of backlinks from signatures.
Directories
Again this is something anyone can do and its best to do it with every new site. It may not bring in much traffic but you get a link of backlinks which is good. Some directories can be specific to your niche. These are excellent. For this website I submitted to webmaster related and blog directories. Here is a good list of free directories.
Social Bookmarking
This method can bring in huge traffic really easily so use it! Add icons to the end of your posts by installing the “sociable” plugin. Also when you write new posts digg them/ stumble them yourself first.
Top Lists
Often overlooked but these sites can bring in traffic without any work. Simply sign up for a toplist and post a button on your website. You can see a list of toplists which I use on the site under buttons. There are toplists for a variety of topics so just search around.
Tutorial Sites
This brings in great traffic although it does require the writing of a nice tutorial. The two main tutorial sites which I submit to are pixel2life and good-tutorials. If you can’t write a tutorial yourself It may be worth hiring someone.
Showcase Sites
If you have been reading my previous post about fuvz.com you will know what a showcase site is. These sites are difficult to get on to. They require a unique and particularly good design. If you are lucky enough to get on them they do bring in good traffic but also get your website known. This means other people may post about your site and basically your website will spread around. To try and get listed simply submit to their websites using a form. A list of showcase sites can be found at this website. You can also submit to my showcase.
My Blog Log and Being Active
This can be done if you have a blog. Simply go to mybloglog.com and claim your blog. You can then add recent viewers to your blog like I have. To get traffic simply go to other peoples blogs and post comments. More than likely they will check your website out.
Add Trackbacks to Posts
If you read an article you like and it inspires you to write an article related to it simply add a trackback to that post back to the post on the website which inspired you. Try doing this with popular blogs. Most people have trackback links displayed automatically under the post so you will get a backlink and traffic.
Yahoo Answers
I just started trying this. I haven’t gained much from it but I hear about others who have. To get traffic simple answer peoples questions about a subject in your website’s niche and leave a link to your website for more details.
There are other ways but these are what I believe to be the main ones. These are the methods which I have been using for my blog. If you believe im missing out on something just post a comment and I will be glad to read.

The methods you raise definitely work. I have been using these techniques for a short time now and have seen increased traffic to some of my blogs. The one that I haven’t tried much of is Yahoo answers, so thanks for the heads up on that one.

Those methods are indeed very effective. Nice article!
most of it are effective in some way for free traffic, but if you are into serious business going into paid objective is the important aspect, in sense you get what you paid for.
Great guide, I’ve already tried quite a few of these methods and they all work. Especially for targeted traffic, submitting to tutorial sites is a GREAT way to get traffic.

Good information, I had tried to install social bookmarking plug-ins to my blog but had some problems.
What I do is write some comments to other blogs, keep by blog up to date once a day and submit my website to search engines like most of us do to get traffic.
Yes , cool methods . I have no Experience with some of them , but will good to learn.
